Thomas Paine is a fully-inclusive sixth form welcoming students from both Rosemary Musker and Charles Burrell High Schools (as well as students from other schools in the area who wish to join us). Staff from both high schools are involved in teaching many of the courses we offer and we have a dedicated sixth form block on each school site. To make the lives of our students as uncomplicated as possible a free mini-bus service runs regularly between the sites ensuring that you should never be late for a lesson!

The sixth form offers a range of courses designed to encourage students of all abilities to remain in further education beyond the age of sixteen. AS/A2 Level courses require students to join us with a minimum of five GCSEs at grades A*-C, one of which should be Math or English. For those students courses offered include Media Studies, Psychology and Sociology alongside the subjects you are more familiar with from the main school including Maths, English, Languages and Sciences.

For students who don’t achieve the five A*-C grades, or who wish to study a more work-related subject we offer courses including Business Administration, Public Services and Childcare. From September 2008 we are also hoping to offer a programme of Student Apprenticeships so watch this space!

In addition to the wide variety of experiences offered during lessons we believe that it is vital for our Sixth Formers to have good pastoral support and the opportunity to be involved in both extra-curricular activities and social events. Each member of the Sixth Form has a personal tutor who will assist with any problems you may experience and give you guidance on applying for jobs or to university. Each site also has a Head of Sixth Form whose job is to ensure that your experience is as happy and fulfilling as possible. Enhancement activities such as Duke of Edinburgh and the chance to continue with ASDAN are also offered, as is the chance to be part of the Student Council. Their job is to raise any issues on behalf of the student body, and to help to organise trips and other social events that help to make sixth form life more interesting.

If you would like more information about the full range of courses on offer, or have any questions at all with regard to Sixth Form life please contact the Head of Sixth Form or any member of Sixth Form staff for details.
