| Our school is committed to providing inclusive education and we recognise that every student needs support in their studies and in other areas of school life.
We work with out partner school and providers to make the move to high school as smooth as possible. We also hold induction days for students as well as an induction evening for parents and students in the summer term. This allows us to gain as much information as possible and direct support as appropriate. We have many professionals who offer support to our students and their families with the aim of allowing students to achieve their potential. The learning mentors, learning support assistants, inclusion team, SEN team, EAL team and counsellor all direct their support in the most appropriate way and at the most appropriate times to support students. Students are supports in the classroom or in small groups in the inclusion or student support units. We also offer after school support for students as well and a homework club. It is important that students' achievements are recognised and we operate a computerised behaviour tracking system which allows us to record the successes of our students - no matter how small. We have rewards assemblies each week and presentation events to recognise achievements in the presense of parents and carers. Learn and allow other to learn is a very important message for all students. Whilst good behaviour is recognised - poor behaviour is noticed and acted upon. We operate an eight rung behaviour ladder and communicate frequently with the parents/carers about the progress of any student on this ladder through report cards, 'phone calls and meetings. We also recognise the importance of regular attendance at school. If a student falls below 95% attendance there is a significant chance that they will not achieve their potential. We actively encourage parents to take breaks out of term time and to communicate reasons for any other absence on the first day of absence. Absence for illness and bereavement are authorised - other reasons are deemed to be unauthorised unless the circumstances are exceptional. We offer individual support, a broad and balanced curriculum, and we hope that every student in our school is able to flourish and achieve their potential whilst in our care. |
