Core GCSE P.E>
‘Cross County Runs and Nasty Communal Showers’ that’s how many of our parents perceive Physical Education to be. Thankfully not today.
Physical Educational today focuses on exactly what it states, being educated about the need to be physically fit.
‘Health is a state of complete state of physical, mental and social well being,’ and we teach your children to be just that. Every lesson has at least one outcome relating to your child being able to learn how to physically prepare themselves, how to work within a team, or how to ensure that are mentally prepared to face life’s challenges. With this in mind and having taken on board many students views we have completely revamped the Key stage 4 Curriculum.
Upon entering Year 10 your child has the option to choose from 3 pathways, a predominantly male pathway, female pathway and a vocational pathway. You can expect to see activities that will give your child the confidence to continue to be healthy when they leave school, for example Aerobics (Aqua, Step and CardioKick), Trampolining, Swimming and Self defence. Along side these new activities we have integrated a first aid course, the Junior sports leaders award, and the Junior Football Organisers award, all which come highly recommended by colleges and universities.
As always we face a barrage of notes and excuses that prevent your children from taking part, but as you can see, we no longer enforce a compulsory reign of terror. We have taken on board the opinions of the young adults we have a duty to teach, and we have stood up to the challenge of providing them with a wide and varied curriculum that will serve to improve their personal development as a well to become a rounded member of society.
We encourage you as a parent or carer to carefully decide what is best for your child, and work alongside them and us to ensure that your child receives the best that we have to offer. The government enforce a statutory 2 hour period a week for Physical education. In return we try to ensure that it is a worthwhile experience for your child.
Please support us and them by ensuring that your child is organised, and ready to meet the challenges that we prepare for them, to help them prepare for life.
GCSE
To discover whether GCSE Physical Education is the course for you, you should ask yourself the following questions:
1) Am I prepared to work extremely hard?
2) Can I perform well in more than one sport?
3) Do I understand there is much theory and written work involved?
If you answered YES to all 3 questions then you may be a suitable student to study this course.
| Practical Paper (60%) | 4 practicals Analysis of performance and written PEP |
| Written Paper (40%) | Multiple choice Short answer Scenario questions |
Sports available:
Football, Netball, Basketball, Hockey, Table Tennis, Athletics, Rounders, Badminton, Trampolining. It is possible to be assessed in other sports not on this list. (If you want to know more please see Ms E. Tilly)

The PEP is a six week fitness programme written by the candidates and designed to focus on improving physical performance drawing on knowledge from the theory component of this course.
Candidates’ ability to analyse performance will be based on one activity selected by the candidate.
