GCSE

FRENCH

GCSE French involves studying 4 Skills, each worth 25%
• Listening final exam
• Speaking final exam
• Reading final exam
• Writing coursework (5 pieces over the 2 years)

The department also organises:

• A trip to France
• Help with coursework
• Cheap dictionaries and revision guides to buy
• An ‘assistante’ to help with spoken French and prepare for exams

We use an interactive whiteboard extensively and we have e-mail links with a school in Nantes

French GCSE is useful because it helps you:

• Travel
• Understand others
• Get better wages
• Look smart on your C.V.

ASSET Spanish/German

Asset is a brand new languages qualification, aimed at all levels of ability in a variety of different languages.

It offers a number of benefits:

• It is nationally recognised by employers and colleges
• It offers a wide range of levels from beginners through to GCSE and A-level equivalents.
• It is entirely skills-based and assessments are made on what you can do, rather than what you can, or can’t, remember.
• You are assessed separately in each of the 4 skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing). For example, if you find the listening hard, you can choose to leave it out.
• There are no time limits – you sit the tests when you’re ready!

You can choose either Spanish or German (or both)

It will help you to:

• Get a better job – British companies are always looking for people who can speak other languages and when you’ve learnt one, learning others is easier
• Make yourself understood on holiday
• Go where you want to go, not just where the holiday rep. sends you!
